About Our School
City Knoll Middle School (CKMS) was founded in 2014. We began in what is currently PS 51 on West 44th Street and quickly outgrew it. We relocated to 425 East 33rd Street where we were housed in a building connected to the historic Church of St. Michael, which was previously an all-girls Catholic School from 1874-2010. Now CKMS shares a building with PS 111 on West 53rd Street.
All members of the CKMS community learn from one another in a warm compassionate environment while building relationships. By bridging social and emotional needs with academic needs we collaborate to discover and share new ideas that deepen our knowledge and develop meaningful connections to the outside world. Our rigorous individualized instruction embraces various learning styles. We provide multiple entry points, customized to meet all students’ needs and honor their strengths. By engaging in a class culture that fosters creativity and integrates technological skills, students become leaders who are comfortable with sharing their learning with others. We recognize how self-accountability can develop students’ individual growth. We celebrate successes, no matter how big or small so each voice is heard. We view challenges as opportunities, take risks and persevere to reach our goals.
City Knoll Middle School is a diverse learning community that develops self-confidence and supports creative minds and energetic, future leaders. When faced with challenges and adversities, students work collaboratively with ALL members of the school community to create a safe and supportive learning environment, where everyone feels accepted, respected and valued for their unique perspectives. We develop socially responsive, critical thinkers and problem solvers, who are successfully able to navigate a complex and evolving world.
