Manhattan Youth offers a range of art activities throughout the school year. Below you may find a few activities (with descriptions) offered in past years.
Art Portfolio: In art portfolio, with the guidance of an art specialist, students will cultivate an edited collection of their best work intended for showcase use as they prepare for High School. Students will learn different art techniques and best practices while building their personal portfolios.
Comic Book: In this hands-on, project-based class, students will develop, write and design their own comic books. Students explore the work of different authors to understand themes and genres. Students learn to use images and text to tell their own stories. The class will culminate in a showing of the finished comic books.
DIY: Students will be introduced to the basics of Do-It-Yourself arts and craft projects. Through hands-on experimentation, students will develop various take home projects using easily available materials and various mediums including woodworking, fabric arts, and recycled/repurposed items.
Intro Origami: Students will learn the basic level of origami crafts. When students complete this activity they will be able to fold origami crafts into several patterns such as airplane, boats, animals, birds, crabs, dolls, ninja's throw weapon (shuriken), or boxes
Location Drawing and Sketching: This basic drawing class will allow you to reconnect with your drawing and sketching roots as you learn to create figures, still life’s, and more. In this environment-focused art class, students will also increase depth perception and detail in their work as they go on walking trips to sketch points of interest in the surrounding neighborhood
Open Art: While moving at their own pace, students will create various artwork with the guidance of their trained art instructor
